Howard University Law Library

For those of you who couldn't attend the building tour of the new law library on Howard U's law school campus, you missed a real treat!  This four story building redefines the entire campus by establishing a more inviting entryway as well as creating an intimate courtyard between the existing buildings.  The traditional gothic feel of the campus is accented by the building's use of 3-story ribbons of glass.  A unique type of copper that doesn't form a patina even after prolonged exposure, was used to clad the roof overhang.  On the interior, the building has two zones divided by the entry corridor; the west zone for meetings rooms and computer labs (open to the general public) and the east zone being the actual library.  Upper levels of the library provide an enjoyable view of the courtyard as well as panoramic views of the city.  The library's comfortable and attractive chairs and furnishings were designed by Washington firm Ai.  DC NOMA expresses its sincere thanks to Isham Baker for providing the tour.  (photos courtesy of Fine Arts Photography)
